Hi,

I have a WinXP Pro laptop which has a profile setup to log onto the computer and the network domain.

The user id's are identical, the user is the same user, yet there are now 2 seperate My Documents folders within Documents and Settings. "FirstName.LastName" and "FirstName.LastName.Domain"

Is there a way of combining these 2 profiles into a single profile so that this user can log on to the machine whether or not they're connected to the domain.

Thanks in advance.

Even though it sounds like the 2 users have identical names they are actually quite different if one logs in to a domain and say one is a local account on the laptop. They both have different SID's. Research on microsoft's website to learn more about SID's or Security Identifier.

Once you have the domain account, there is no need to use the local user account. Migrate your documents to your domain profile and always logon to the domain, even when you are at home and have no network connection to it you can still logon to the domain becuase by default, Windows caches your logon information and you authenticate to the domain without a domain controller being present.
