I have 7 Professional retail box with 32 & 64 bit disks. I am running the 32 bit but would like to try the 64 bit. I have been given conflicting answers. As I have both disks am I able to run both 32 and 64 bit with the same serial number? The reason I use 32bit is so I can run old games but have now bought the lastest Doom which only runs on 64bit.

Yes, you may run either. Only one at a time though.

Hi goombawaho

Just to make sure I understand you correctly, can I have 2 HD in one computer with 32 on one and 64 on the other and when I boot up I can choose which drive to use depending on which game I want to play?

I got the game wrong. It is the new Wolfenstrin that is 64bit only

Technically no - you can only have one legitimate installation existing at a time.

Well technically yes, but legally no!
Correct answer. This comes under the heading of "nobody will ever know except me and my shadow".

You can backup and restore your "activation" between 32 bit and 64 bit as I have tested/proven with Advanced Tokens Manager. Backup the activation information, load/reload Win 7 64bit on same or different hard drive, restore activation information without contacting Microsoft by phone/internet. Also good for computers that don't connect to the internet

But of course it also begs the question, "Why would you need to on the same system?"

And if you are thinking its games, you would be wrong, there is no game I can think of that can be played on a 32 bit version of windows 7 and not on a 64 bit version, I even play old DOS games on 64 bit version of windows 7, just need to use DOSBox, and configure it right, but a place like GOG for a few bucks already has done it for a bunch of games. In fact a lot of older games made for XP run better under 64 bit windows 7 then under the 32 bit version.

Thank you all for the advice. The old game that I still play is the very old original Wolfenstein and Doom. I also have a very old DOS program 1987 that I use and have been told it would not run in 64bit. As I have said, I now have the new Wolfenstein which only runs in 64bit that is why having 2 HDs with the 32 and 64bit loaded on them would allow me to play all my games.

Even in the 32bit some of the old games do not run properly unlike when I had XP or 2000.

Again thank you all.

You just need to get DOSBox. It is a x86 emulator with dos, it runs in Linux, windows 7 and 8 for all of those loved games and programs. I still run Master of Magic on a windows 7 x64 machine.
