I have installed SAMBA(2.0.7) but when i start up the daemons I see in the log.smb;
bind failed on port 139 socet_addr=0.0.0.0 (Address already in use)

THe following entries are in /etc/services;

netbios-ssn 139/tcp #NETBIOS Session Service
netbios-ssn 139/udp #NETBIOS Session Service

I have these entries on other sites wher SAMBA is running successfully. Any help would be appreciated

hi ,

is anything connected to port 139 do netstat -an | grep 139
if so does the ip address that has a connection a pc or a server. If you have lsof installed check what is using port 139.

ALso load 2.2.8 lates version of samba for AIX , because lowever versions have security holes in them

Hello,

I had this problem too.
It seems to be a kind of bug.
Try putting a different port number that is not used, exemple 4444 and restart samba :

smbd -D -p 4444
nmbd -D

This should work

hi,

I don' belive change "#NETBIOS Session Service" port is
a good idea: when PC will comunicate with samba server
they will use 139 and not 4444 or 7777.

Samba is not a "supported" tool, many times I have discussed
this theme on these forum: IBM has a supported product

Fast Connect for POWER Version 3.1

whit this you have not problem, but Samba is better becouse
is always newer than it and it is free: the price to pay
is to download the right version and read something more
that "smitty install_latest".

Some versions of samba starts daemons at boot, other waits
for someone (PC) calls the service via superserver inetd
(that reads /etc/sevices ) ; in this case reboot samba server or simply "refresh -s inetd"

Use special WEB server SWAT (901 port) that make easier
Samba configuration, and follow DSMARWAY suggest for
latest release.

bye
