Hello.

We have here at work a two node Sun Cluster 2.2 system which offers shares via samba to various Microsoft clients. Samba runs on the master node but not on the backup node. This makes the cluster solution a little redundant in the case of a failover; the shares will not be available.

As I understand it the solution would be to install a 'spare' NIC on the backup node that would be activated only on failover to assume the IP address and the MAC address of the NIC on the master node which hosts the samba server. Can anyone confirm this path for me or make aternative suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Toby

Surely the answer is to put the Samba application on the logical host (or one of them in a symmetric setup), and then create a data service with start/stop methods to be called during failover.
