First off, I am still rather new to Linux, so bear with me.
I tried to add a new user to the Samba server today, but was unable to get it to work. This is what I did.
First I tried thru the shell with useradd -m -g smbusers gcampbell. This seems to take, but when I try to give him a smbpasswd, it fails stating there is no user with that name. But if I try to add him again, it says that user already exists.
So then I tried thru webmin. I added him to the Unix side and to the smbusers group. He is there, but when I go to the Samba Server, edit users, he is not in there. I restarted both Samba and the server itself, to no avail.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks,

Matt Wray

To add samba users, in a terminal as root:

smbpasswd [options] [username] [password]

For more info about the options, look in the documentation for smbpassword.

To add samba user "gcampbell":
smbpasswd -a gcampbell
