I installed 3.0.26 on my machine that is currently running 3.0.0

Using 3.0.0 my users can map a share without using a user ID and password (security ADS)

When I change the inetd.conf file to point to the new version of samba, it prompts my users for userid and password. I copied my old smb.conf file to the new directory structure and still no go. Any ideas on how to make it where the users dont have to use id and password?

You might try to copy the smbpasswd file as well, but this is not going to work between all versions of samba, so you should better perform a backup of the old file first.

But be sure not to copy the binary ...
(There are 2 smbpasswd files: The binary and the actual password file ...)

I only saw one smbpassword file ....where is the otherone?

Oh heres my smb.conf file

[global]
workgroup = UHS
realm = UHS.MED
server string = aixidx Samba Server
security = ADS
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *new*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n \n
local master = No
domain master = No
wins server = 10.135.2.44
ldap ssl = start tls
valid users = jmw62290, jmwadmin
admin users = jmw62290, jmwadmin

[winshare]
comment = Cache Reporting directory
path = /winshare
valid users =
admin users =
read list = +winshare, +idxapps
write list = operator, +opermgr

It should look somthing like this:

../old_samba_version/private/smbpasswd

Just go ahead and copy it to

../new_samba_version/private/smbpasswd
