Hello,
I would like to put users homes in a central (backupped) server. But I do not want to use roaming profiles, I would like a solution similar to solaris /exports/home.

Is it possible with samba?

It is possible, but most of the work is actually on the client side (Windows 2K/XP) that will do the redirection.

I currently use this type of solution (although I do use roaming profiles) but it will work without roaming profiles enabled.

You need to set the registry values under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders:
-"Personal"
-"My Pictures"
-"My Music"

These are hex encoded, so the easiest way is to change it on one of the workstations and then export that key to a file, removing all but those three.

Once you have that you create a login script for your users and have it execute

regedit /s my_registry_changes.reg

so they get applied to the client.
