i have samba installed and working properly, but ...

in the logs of nmbd daemon i have found some messages
i dont' know if i have to worry about it or no:

[2001/09/11 15:37:33, 0] nmbd/nmbd_responserecordsdb.c:find_response_record(238)
find_response_record: response packet id 648 received with no matching record.

????

[2001/09/11 15:41:27, 0] nmbd/nmbd_namequery.c:query_name_response(90)
query_name_response: Multiple (2) rsponses received for a query on subnet 192.168.1.5 for name LIMBA<1d>. This response was
from IP 192.168.1.10

this record makes me somehow crazy:
a - 192.168.1.10 is our print server, 192.168.1.5 is the linux box and there is no maschine on the network with the name LIMBA<1d>, the computer names are LIMBAXX, where XX is 01 to 26
b - this message is repeated every 5-6 minutes

any idea what's going on?

Hi,

The <1d> netbios resource type indicates the 'Master browser'. This can often be a machine that has been active longest on the network such as a print server. For example if you take down a PDC that was master browser for the domain then another machine must take over and an 'election' takes place. All the message is saying is that it was broadcasting for a master browser on the subnet and got the ip of the print server. All 'browsers' are in this context is machines that collect lists of network shares, etc., from netbios service announcements. The fact that it repeats is just part of the nature of netbios which involves regular broadcast messages.

Rgds
