Hello All,
I'm trying to set up samba (testing atm) and am getting errors when trying to run broadcast tests
I can run an nmblookup on my windows clients with no problems, eg -
[root@gallifrey root]# nmblookup skaro
querying skaro on 192.168.0.255
192.168.0.2 skaro<00>
however if I try to run an mnblookup on the smb server itself I get the following:
[root@gallifrey root]# nmblookup gallifrey
querying gallifrey on 192.168.0.255
name_query failed to find name gallifrey
I'm no expert at this, however If the broadcast test works on the windows clients shouldn't it also work on the server? I guess this should show the enumirated shares...
The windows workstations can only see the smb server at intermittent stages.. cannot find the pattern though.
ifconfig eth0 shows the following:
[root@gallifrey root]# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:05:1B:00:03:38
inet addr:192.168.0.4 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:1043 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:956 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:777532 (759.3 Kb) TX bytes:169625 (165.6 Kb)
I can run smcblient to the windows workstations and the smb server. The smb.conf is only a simple one as follows:
[global]
netbios name = GALLIFREY
workgroup = BOON
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
[public]
path = /tmp
read only = no
Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Any help apppreciated. Thanks.
