I have already installed samba on my Linux server, until this time I can see samba workgroup and linux server on windows 98 network neighborhood but if I try access linux server via network neighborhood then I find messages "network is busy", after several minutes I try access again and I find message "computer and sharename cannot be found ...."

could you suggest me what reason of this problem ?
I mention that there is no firewall that block udp port 137, 138, 139, and there is no problem with smb.conf, because I have already applied it in other linux box and it work fine

thanks

You must tell any windows machine to avoid participating to the master browser election

Open your network settings and select 'File and printer sharing for MS networks'
Click 'properties' and set 'master browser' or 'local master' to disabled, the default setting is 'AUTO'.

Now edit your smb.conf and add the follwing lines

local master = yes
OS level = 64

Note:
If you have a Windows Primary Domain Controller the above instruction in the smb.conf will prevent Win NT to win the master browser election. I only recommend that if you are in a peer to peer network.
If you have a PDC then make sure that your Linux box joins the domain; type:

smbpasswd -j domain_name -r server_name

in smb.conf set

local master = no
leave OS level to the default

This should sort out your problem.
Bye
