Hello;
I've installed samba-2.2.5-1.i386.rpm package on RedHat 7.2 server which originally doesn't contain any samba.
We've usenix group where there are five Win2000 servers. I can see my linux server in that group after starting smb with the Name LOCATHOST, but when I click on it, can't access message.
And There isn't smbadduser command in any directory.
Why?
can anyone tell me or help me? I am doing this for last some days. But, with the help of this forum, I did QUOTA uses. Thanks a lot to FLUID11
I changed the /etc/samba/smb.conf file one two place
1. workgroup=usenix
2. String=Yescha's Samba Server
#======================= Global Settings =====================================
[global]

# workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name
workgroup = usenix

# server string is the equivalent of the NT Description field
server string = Yescha's Samba Server

# This option is important for security. It allows you to restrict
....
BYE!!

On the Linux computer, did you add users to Samba?

Lets say you work from a Windows2000 machine and your Login name is: charlie and your passoword is: cheese.

Go to your Linux comp and get the the shell prompt. Type this:

smbpasswd -a charlie

It should now prompt your for a password and use the same password you use to log into your W2K machine: cheese.

Now you should be able to access the Linux box from Windows. ====================================
I love people. They taste just like
chicken!

What does the "security= " line say in smb.conf? This tells Samba where to authenticate users from. Try 'security=share' if you don't want to set users up.
