I am running Samba on a Mandrake 8 box to share with a Win2k Pro machine and configuring it using SWAT. I do restart smbd and nmbd to see changes.

The problem is in Win2k's Network Places, under the same workgroup name(LINUX) which i set, i see a Win2k computer name icon and the Linux box's computer name icon(called Localhost). The Win2k i can access, but When i try to access the Localhost icon, a message pops up saying "Duplicate hostname exists on network".

As far as i know, the computername for the Linux box is "localhost.localdomain" and the Win2K's computer name is "Trak". The only thing same is they are in the same workgroup.

Any ideas, anyone?

(PS If the answer is to change hostname on the Linuxbox, can briefly outline the steps?) Thanks!
Also, I am not using encryted passwords too, is that a problem?

In the linux prompt.. type
netconfig and press enter... The resulting window will guide you. You can set the localhost name as a different name and try. You can also try a similar command..
linuxconfig (or if I dont remember it correctly... linuxconf). From there you will be guided properly.

Best of luck.
