There must be something that i am missing with setting up samba as a PDC.

I followed this tutorial:

but no go .. when i try to add my WIN 2k machine to the domain it just says cannot connect.

This machine does have a firewall but i wouldnt think that running samba as a PDC would require any other ports than just using samba normally for file sharing

Any thoughts?

Post your smb.conf file. Also what version of Samba are you using? James Collins

Do you have a 98 machine you can attempt to use
?Did you create an account on the Linux for the 2000 Machine? James Collins

I do not have a 98 machine to try this with, i was done with 98 a while ago.

My win2k machine is named Delta. Here are the following entrys out of the /etc/passwd file:

Delta$:x:505:201:Delta:/dev/null:/bin/false
DELTA$:x:506:201:Delta:/dev/null:/bin/false

Well windows 2000 and other nt machine require a machine trust account. You can make this by tpyeing in on the unix counsol smbpasswd -a -m "machine name" and that will make a machine trust account in smbpasswd file. Make sure to add the line admin users and the valid administration users. and then try to log in with that user.
