Two samba questions:

Setup is as follows: Samba PDC, windows 2000 server clients (SP3), windows 98 clients, printer attached to the samba machine (red hat 8).

After installing the printer on the Red Hat (PDC), and without adding anything or changing any of the default printer related settings in smb.conf, I am able to install the printer drivers (locally on the windows clients)and print from my windows clients just fine. However, there is a small issue.

Right now when I click on the printer icon (after I give a printjob from my windows 2000 clients) is a printer window with a title that says "access denied. lexmark on ssw1 failed to open, retrying". ssw1 is the name of my red hat samba machine and lexmark is the printer name in printcap. The funny thing is, even though this error mesg is always there, the print job goes through just fine and the printout comes out without any problem!.

Things I tried, that didn't solve this problem.

1. added
browseable = yes
writable = yes
in [printers]

2. checked that the spool directory for sufficient permissions.

3. Made the user a member of the printer admin group defined in smb.conf

Can you offer me any suggestions on getting rid of this error message?.

In one of my red hat machines (installed as a workstation), after logging in as root (to the X console) and when I try to open 'network configuration' or 'network devices' from the program list, nothing happens! It just doesn't open up.All I get is the 'keys' icon (if you're familiar with red hat) that appears near the time display that comes everytime you open a administrative tool. Everything else works just right and the hardware is perfectly ok. So to configure my network, i now use linuxconf from the console. Any pointers as to what could be wrong?.

I would appreciate all your suggestions.

thanks very much.
