Hi
Have just installed suse10.1 linux and am trying to use samba to see windows shares on the network. When I try "smbclient -L localhost -U%" the terminal just sits and does nothing unless ^c is pressed upon which the command finishes. have done a ps ax which shows me both smbd and nmbd are running, also when I try smb restart I get a warning that daemon already running. I have also noted that when a smb stop is performed then even though it has said it is done if you run ps ax smbd is still running.
Please help me with this
Regards
Adrian

This sounds normal. You are indicating that a password will follow (after the %), but you are not giving one. Better for testing to leave the -U off and supply a password when prompted.

Not familiar with the Suse scripts, so I can't comment on the start|restart|stop issues, but might speculate that perhaps you are not running these commands as root?

Finally, you stated that when you press ^c the smbclient finishes. What happens? Are you not seeing the expected output? What kind of output do you get?
