Samba + LDAP PDC

Guys.. i've been reading up/researching and figuring out on howto replace my 2k domain controller (which handles authentication and file sharing (Active Directory)) with Linux... in an On and Off Mode as stated on my previous post:

also.. i am using gentoo as my weapon of choice.. (i kinda like the emerge idea somewhat like a bsd).

Am gonna be implementing 100% Linux Solution for a small group of people.. which will take care of:

-Centralized Authentication (DC)
-File Sharing
-Print Sharing

Anyways, I dig up some documents on Samba and OpenLdap but as a 2K user.. do i have to setup a DNS?

If you want to resolve internal domain users PC names then you have to setup DNS.

if helpfull plzz inform.

hmmm.. ok..

i am planning to implement a Linux version of my existing 2K DC, DNS and Active Directory which take cares of the internal network.

hmmm this is gonna be one heck of a task!

Not a Linux user myself, yet, box is ready and I'm trying to teach myself (a long slow hard process). However I can speak from experience about the quality of Gentoo. A friend of my is a Linux wiz and his flavour of choice is Gentoo, you can check out some of his installation notes and advice at:
