I connected linux server and win2k server via ethernet, I can see linux hostname in "microsoft windows network"(both win2k and linux hostname under "workgroup") when I tried to map the network drive.
Now, I got error message "The network name cannot be found" if I try to connect to linux. I already modified smb.conf and started smb. Can anybody help me?

Assuming that you can use smbclient from the linux box to talk to its own SMB shares, which verifies its correct operation.

Try adding the SMB network name of the Linux box and it's IP address to lmhosts on your W2K box. ______________________________________________________________________

Have you also added the user to the smbpasswd file? If you haven't already, you need to create a user on the linux box, and then do smbpasswd -a <username>.
