I downloaded the newest version of samba and installed it. I dont know where it got installed to but I did ./configure and make then make install. Now I setup samba in webmin but I can not see the shares from my windows boxes.. I even try typing in \\linuxip and i dont get anything can someone please help.. I am running redhat 7.2.
Thanks

Try to look for /etc/samba/smb.conf
smb.conf is the samba configuration file, and the best way to configure samba.

Verify that the smbd and nmbd daemon is running.
Samba probably logs to /var/log/samba/*

Samba probably installed itself in /usr/sbin.
Find smbd with #locate smbd or #find / -type f -name smbd

Remeber to restart samba when you change the configuration.
Problems with samba is usually:
-name lookups
-invalid or wrong config
-hosts allow statements in smb.conf or iptables/ipchains rulesets

Hope this helps you a bit on the way...

Thanks bro.. I will try it when I get home from work
