I have setup a samba server and all is going good with the exception of one Issue, we have several drive letters mapped to samba shares, every time we log on it windows does not automatically reconnect the drives, clicking on the drive letter promts us for the the password and all is good, but if we have 3 drives mapped we have to to this for each drive every time. Is this a problem with the way I have it setup?

Have you created a login script? If so, please post it, if not, create it.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

No I did not create a login script, does the smb server need to be a PDC to accomplish this? What is the easiest method to create the script file.

you should not need a login script just for drive mappings.
what os/version are your clients?
are the smb usernames the same as the client login name?
if they are not then you can add username mappings in the smbuser file (on your samba server).
Password syncronization may also be the issue.
This will depend on your method of authorization.

The clients are XP Pro (some win98 that I have not tested yet), the users are setup on the server and the passwords are identical.

What stanhubble was after is: are the Windows user account name and the samba account name exactly the same? If not, you will be prompted for credentials unless you use username mapping to map the Windows username to samba username.
