You need to make sure that smbd and nmbd are running. (ps -aux | grep "smbd").

If they are not, then you will need to start them. If they are running, then you need to check for a connection problem between your Win machine and your Linux machine (use ping on the Windows machine)

If you are able to ping the Linux machine, then you need to check out the trouble shooting documentation that came with your Samba distro.

Good Luck!

1. make sure the work group name is same

2. make sure the EnablePlainTextPassword value = 1

3. can u ping linux server

4. add smbpasswd and user name same as windows username

5. make sure named and smb running

I would like to add one item here. Your hosts allow is missing an octet. I have experienced some problems configuring SAMBA in the past using swat. I would recommend modifying the files by hand. You can usually find some good samples to follow on the internet. The smb.conf file usually has the general outline in it. I would highly recommend looking at this file so you get the idea of how to format your configuration.

Ill give you my email address if you want a copy of my samba config file. I can see my samba server in network neighborhood, since I got it to work. Unfortunately I cant paste it in from the text tile itself because netscape here does not support copy paste operations for some stupid reason I havent pursued to try to fix yet.
email address:
frankandlinux@hotmail.com,
I will send it to you as an attachment when I find your email in there, make sure that you specify the keywords
"SambaConfigHelp" so that I recognize it.
Laterz...
