Hi.

I installed Samba for the first time today, and quickly
overcame what appears to be the same problem, thanks to "Swat"...
Anyway, Check the smb.conf file.
If you have security = USER, try setting it to
security = SHARE.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
i used security = SHARE and i can visit some folders on linux box from windows 2000.However it pops ups a login dialog when i visit my home on linux and i canot use my home :(

i can visit the imonitor folder as below:
...
[imonitor]
comment = intelligent monitor project
path = /usr/local/tomcat/webapps/imonitor/
public = yes
writable = yes
browseable = yes
printable = no
...
however i cannot visit my home even though i enter correct account and password !

Any suggestion is appreciated! IPO_z@cmmail.com

i got mine to work you might have to use this
smbpasswd -a "user" then you have to put in a password and remember to log in

domain"no .com"\user in the windows login box

hope this works for you

#smbpasswd -a user1
#cat /etc/samba/smbpasswd
...
user1:501:1F7E5DB40D5B394BFF17365FAF1FFE89:6B0302D62FCC9A31931D53F84ED254A1::LCT-3C76B398:
...
So i am sure user1 has been created.However the windows 2000 still cannot use user1's home directory /home/user1.

It works now :)
I just UNCOMMENT the line below in /etc/samba/smb.conf
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd

then all samba users can use the shared folders in samba server now !
