HI,

I have installed Samba on a 10.20 Hpux box and it says the share i have created is fine. I can browse the Win2000 server from the Hp box ok and i can see the Unix (HP) machine if i browse the network on the Win2000 box. But, when i try and connect to the unix share from Win2000 it asks for a username and passwd. I have tried entering the unix root user and passwd and the admin user name and passwd (i have set up a user called admin on the unix machine which points to administrator in the users.map file)
and it wont let me in. I think i am almost there and would be gratefull if someone could help me with the last piece of the puzzle!

Many thanks.

Yes I know.
I does not work with me to.
Just made to annoy.
Thats also the reason you have to pay the full ransom
to upgrade from winnt to 2000.

You can do it like this:
[global]
wins server = 10.xx ip of your nt server
workgroup = Your Domain or workgroup name
security = server #leave this as is
password server = name_of_your_nt_server.

With these lines in [global] the passwords will be
validated on the nt-server.
So you can forget the smbpasswd file.

[homes]
comment = Mfgpro Home %U From %m.
browseable = no
read only = no
create mode = 0750
guest ok = true
hide dot files = yes
public = yes

This enables users to browse there home dir on the
unix box.

Thanks for the reply,

I have thus found out the the guy doing the WIn2000 had made a 'maistake' whilst enetering the registry to accept plaine text passwords. I sent over the .reg file and rebooted and it worked.
The password server change you mentioned looks very interesting and i will have a play with that as it looks like it will save me much time and hassle in the future.
Thanks for you input.
