Hello,

I am running FC3 64Bit and I have ldap working for system login via nsswitch.

I also have samba working with ldap, however, when i issues smbpasswd -a user, that user has to exist in the /etc/passwd

My question is how can I make this work if the user is only listed in the ldap directory, and not in /etc/passwd?

Thanks!

Don't use smbpasswd. Instead, use the smbldap tools from padl.com. These will populate your LDAP directory with entries containing the correct attributes. If the account already exists in the directory in the correct container, simply add the appropriate attributes for Samba interaction. It helps to create a new account with the PADL tools so you can see the attributes with which it is created.
