I'm trying to send a 4.2GB file from a FC2 workstation to a win2k server. However, when I've transferred only 2GB, I get the error "File size limit exceeded". At first I thought it was a win2k issue, but I got the same error transferring to our RH9 file server. Is this a known limitation?

What program are you using to do the send, and on what media does the file exist?

Not using any program other than plain old cp. The source file is located on an ext3 filesystem on the FC2 workstation. The destination RH9 file server is also ext3, while the win2k server is ntfs.

that sounds right, what about file size limits being imposed?

That version of samba must not have big file limits turned on.

1: Verify that you can have a file larger than 2GB on the file server. That might be where the problem is.

type "dd if=/dev/zero of=/some_path_for_storge/test_file bs=1024 count=2048000"

that will create and exact 2GB file.

next try again, except change the count to something like 2096000, something larger than 2 GB.

Sorry, did not finish post yet.

If that works try upgrading your version of samba to the latest, but make sure you delete the file when you are finished testing with it.

I've verified that on all 3 machines, I can have files larger than 2GB.

How do I turn on "big file limit"? Does this setting need to be turned on on both clients & server?
