Hopefully this is the correct forum. My customer is running Sage CRM 7.0.d. They changed the SQL Server sa password, and now Sage CRM will not function. I looked at Services under Control Panel, administrative tools thinking some service was running under the sa account and since the password had changed, the service could not start. Everything that was set to start automatically was started.

Any ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated.

Do_not_use sa for any Accpac or CRM connections for this reason. You need to change the SQL sa password in CRM, it needs to login to the SQL database and that is where it is failing.

Why would changing the sa password make Sage CRM fail?

What services should I look at?

Since I can no longer log into Sage CRM, which table is this in? Can I just restore from backup?

Are you Sage CRM certified? They teach that in the training. CRM needs to open the CRM database in SQL server right? So it needs an SQL user ID and password. Since the sa password has changed CRM can no longer open the CRM database in SQL server. It's not a service that is failing, you're looking in the wrong place.
The SQL database password is stored in the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\eWare\Config\/CRM in DatabasePassword. You will also see DatabaseUserID. I would create a CRM user in SQL server and then change both the DatabaseUserID and DatabasePassword in the registry - that should get your CRM going again. You type the DatabasePassword in as is and it is encrypted once CRM runs. You need to reset IIS after the registry changes.

OK were in. Many thanks. Who'd ever thunk changing the sa password would make the software stop working.

It's common practise never to use sa for anything critical - because there's always some IT nut that goes changing the password.
