Hi guys

I am preparing to install the Sage Accpac on the Linux ,
I havent installed ever before on the LINUX, It would be grateful if you any knowledgebase source or guide or link etc.,

Thanks ettienne

But why is it so? strange, because in the Sage Accpac document they are saying Accpac can install on Linux. if i am not mistaken, it would be greatful if there is any document which shows that cannot install the sage accpac. then i can shows to my customer during the pre-sales.

Actually you can install the 5.5 DATABASE on Linux however there are a couple of caveats:

1. You must use Pervasive.SQL MS SQL won't work
2. You must run Red Hat Enterprise 4 or 5 or SuSE 9 or 10.

ettienne is correct in that you cannot install Sage Accpac WORKSTATION on a Linux machine.

Also, good luck in getting it installed especially if you're currently running MS SQL. It is a bit of a pain and our Business Partner had to call in someone who was experienced with Linux as he was strictly a Windows guy.

Cheers.

Accpac is a Windows program, it will not run on Linux. Sure you can try WINE, but good luck with that. Motor vehicles cannot drive on water: do you need a document for that as well???
As far as the database side goes, correct you can use Pervasive on a Linux server, IBM DB2 as well for that matter. For Pervasive you need to run Samba on Linux and then treat this as a normal Windows share on the Windows desktops. It is actually very straight forward if you know Linux.

The bottom line is, even though Sage's marketing department says it runs on Linux, all of us technical guys say it's not worth the trouble.

Technically, a Toyota Corolla can pull a trailer, but I'm not going to do it, I'm going to use a Ford F-150.

A Known Devil is better than unknown angel".
it do strongly recommend to my customer windows.

Thank you much indeed for the awesome explanations guys.
