We all know that format doesnt delete data beyond recovery. I am collecting some old systems from company who want confirmation that all hard dirsks have been wiped beyond data recovery.

Can anyone suggest a good util for doing this? I dont want to sign to say the data has gone if it hasnt gone for sure!

Cheers

Mike

A sledgehammer works well. Or a .357 Magnum.

If you intend to sell the systems afterwards... the above methods tend to reduce their value a bit. But they're effective. :)

You might take a look at:

It implements the Department of Defense 5220.22-M standard, which dictates how to securely overwrite sensitive data.
