Hello,

I'm using Safari as my browser and have a folder set in the preferences to use as a downloading area - however, Safari want to use either the desktop or another folder to put any download file into -- even though i set the prefernces to use this folder Safari seems to ignore this setting. Is there a way to force Safari to uise the folder I want

** Dont tell me to "reset" Safari as it will wipe out any cookies (I want) and any passwords also (I want) Did that before; and got into a lot of hot water over that - same with pulling the "preferences file" out of the preferences folder**

Any ideas other than those above?

If your destination folder does not have write permissions for the Safari app, Safari may default to the desktop.

Try just resetting Save Downloads in Safari prefs. It might be best to put the folder for downloads in user Documents, or at least under your user section rather than the general hard drive. and put an alias in the Dock if you access it often. Then quit the program. Launch again and see if Safari prefs held that location. Then download some little thing and see what happens.

It's rather mystifying why Safari won't recognize your downloads folder unless it's not filed under the user's account.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4
