Hi All,

When you subtract a shape from another ahape layer is there a way of actually transforming the shape to subtract before it removes the shape. I am trying to remove a circle from a larger circle but am finding it difficult to make it perfectly in the centre of the larer circle and also the correct size.

Cheers

There are numerous ways of doing this. Here's one -

Make circle shape on layer.
Duplicate the layer.
On duplicated layer do Edit>Free Transform.
Drag one of the corners to re-size.
To keep it centre of the circle below, hold down the Shift and Alt keys as you drag.
If you want to reduce the circle to an exact size, enter the dimensions in the boxes on the horizontal toolbar. Press Return and it will re-size - no dragging required.
With the bottom layer highlighted, command click on the top layer which will make a selection of the top (smaller) circle.
Hit return and the area will be cut from the original shape on the bottom layer.
Hope this makes sense.
(I'm a Mac user so not sure if keystrokes are different on pc)

oops - I said "hit Return". It should say "Hit backspace (delete)".
Apologies for any confusion.
