I am tryng to login in as sa into a 2000 database viaEnterprise Manager using the following steps:
-->right clicking on the server
-->choosing "edit sql server registration properties"
-->choosing "Use SQL Server authentication
-->entering sa and the sa password

I am getting an "Invalid connection string attribute" error for user 'sa'. This is different from the error ("Login Failed") when I enter the wrong password.

Any help?

i think you are using Nt authentication when you installed SQL try this

Goto Enterprise manager Right click on YOUR SERVER Name --.goto properties
You will see menu with 9 tabs Choose SECURITY
MAKE SURE it says SQL SERVER AND WINDOWS (option is checked)

REstart the MSSQL service
and try login again

I get a login failed message when trying to access the properties of my server.

I agree that it is not using SQL server authenication, but how can I get around this since I have the sa password?

if you are getting error "trying to access the properties of my server." then register the server using NT LOGIn then do what i said
Goto Enterprise manager Right click on YOUR SERVER Name --.goto properties
You will see menu with 9 tabs Choose SECURITY
MAKE SURE it says SQL SERVER AND WINDOWS (option is checked)

REstart the MSSQL service
and try login again

What this does is allow u to use Both NT and SQL LOGINS
