S8400- Communication Manager

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi
I just had my s8400 died on me after a power outage i think it might be the TN8400AP. I have a red light at the top left of the card and a red LED at the bottom of the Compaq flash card it is the middle led below the compaq flash card.

any thoughts????

Yes, your compact flash may have been defective. There was a recall a while back, and AVAYA provided a patch to test it, and read your the serial #/CF identification info to see if you needed to replace it. To replace it, you basically have to start over and reload, which is what you are going to probably have to do now. I hope you have some FTP or Compact Flash backups on the external CF (the compact flash on the FRONT of the S8400, the one that needs to be replaced is the ONBOARD compact flash device)

Can we use any compact flash card or AVAYA has to supply this.
I hope the data is stored on the external flash card.

I just came across AVAYA PCN#1616B I think we have a issue.

If you are a Business Partner, they will send you the "kit" for free. If you are not a Business Partner, now would be a good time to find one :) AVAYA will help you as well, but we all know how much they charge per hour, unless you have AVAYA maint. Hopefully you have several recent backups. I have done these before, it takes time, because you basiclly have to load everything from scratch, you need your USB CD-ROM, the same (or a newer CD) of the same MAJOR version of CM you had (example, if you had CM 3.1.2, you could now use CM 3.1.5, if you had say CM 4.0.1, you could load CM 4.0.4, etc). AVAYA has these all as ISO images on the support site, so if you can;t find your CD you can burn one. Of oucrse you still need your RFA license & password file. To be perfectly honest, although you COULD do the reload, this is really a job for an experienced Business Partner or AVAYA

I have ask the BP for the software but they are unable to find it do you have the LINK to the ISO images i would at least have everything on hand to work on this in the morning.
Thanks for your help..

near the bottom, labeled "Full Software Downloads for Servers running Communication Manager"

however, you will need an "SSO" login/password to be able to download the ISO image from the "download center"

You will also need the RFA license and password files, you need to know what version you had (at least which MAJOR version, you can install the most recent minor release, and the license will still work)

Like I said, this is a job for an experienced technician / Business Partner

Also, you will need that replacement internal CF card as well, there isn't much point in spending 2-3 hours reloading on a defective CF device. Not just any CF device will work either... You will probably have to call AVAYA for some recomendations of what you can get locally, if you are out of service... If you have maint, by all means have AVAYA reload and replace it for you.

Thanks,
I don't think we have a contract with Avaya but i will call and find out in the morning. We had a Business Partner but their services was terrible and was unable to do the work.

I will call Avaya... I hope we can use another Compact Flash I know avaya usually put a code on their drive to prevent customer from going out and purchasing an of the shelf product.

s8400 had issues with flash mounted in read only. There is a patch and PCN

patch 14410

replace defective Solid State Drives (2GB Compact Flash Controller Card)installed on the TN8400AP board. patch 14410 load to determine date code of flash on the S8400 card. If in the bad date range, then customer executes
entitlement to PCN1616B which calls for field replacement of the flash on the S8400

Sometimes you can still connect over the MPC modem and do a save translation that you can restore from.

Save translation from CM Command: prompt may return error
"MSS Error Encountered"

You do not mention your cm software version?

That would of been great but I'm located in the Nassau, Bahamas.

Right now getting the Compact Flash would be good. I contact AVAYA and a guy lets call him "Tom" for the CALA out of Florida office was suppose to be working on this I sent him all the info he requested but he never got back to me.

He ask me about the date on the compact flash about 11am yesterday

on the front of the card "
AVYCF2GBJU-F

and at the back of the card
AVY00-01186-1a9cu
060311-MM1-006

Looking at the info it falls in the area of the bad compact flash card.

I sent him a number of email yesterday and leave voice message but he never responded, the funny thing is I saw when he open my emails so I know he is getting them.
All i'm asking is they are able to help with this problem.
