Can a S8300 primary controller and S8300 LSP processor be in the same G700 stack? (In other words: two G700's connect via X330 stacking modules and cables?)

If so, (1) do you assign both the primary and LSP processor's IP addresses in the "mgc list" of both gateways?

(2) how to you assign a stack IP address? (usually, you assign the primary controller's G700 with the stack IP address, what if that G700 goes down, whick IP address become the stack's IP address?

(3)once the LSP takes over does it take over both media gateways or only the media gateway the processor is in?

(4)is there a white paper out there for this type of configuration?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

tshirley04,

yes, it can.

(1) yes, you should assign both processor addresses on both mgps. that's all this lsp business is about.

(2) you don't assign ip address to g700, you assign it to the p330 switch underneath the g700 mgp. that's why you need at least four addresses for single s8300/g700. now, the switches in stack, in your case switching fabrics in g700s, will have the same ip address. but it won't matter, because switching fabric and mgp are different logical units, no matter that they're built in one chassis.

(3) lsp doesn't take over anything, it just sits there and wait. when mgp have lost its link to icc, it will go over the mgc list, see lsp address there and then attempt to register with lsp. because all communications are done over ip, there is no real difference on where mgps and mgcs are located, provided that there is ip connectivity between them.

(4) i don't think there is any white paper exactly on this configuration, because it doesn't really differ from any other configuration.
