Does anybody know if the s8300 supports announcements?

yes, believe we used val manager, the IP of the processor and port 23 to access

dont think you need any hardware, you may need software.

Do you not have to have a VAL board TN2501 and the VAL Manager Software on your PC to connect to it so you can backup and create the announcements?

The s8300 does not support the existing circuit packs used in csi, g3si, g3r, it is rack mounted. I have VAL manager software

The S8300>g700 has an onboard announcement source which gives 20 mins of recording time at 64kbps and 15 ports access. The announcement source does not require any additional hardware but will require call centre software enabled on the S8300 media server.
