I am receiving unusual traps from one of our BPS 2000s. The switch log shows "Trap: s5CrtProblem". I can't find any reference as to what this indicates. Has anyone else seen this before?

Try receiving trap by SNMP trap demon.
Trap code and MIB file can give you more information.

I am not sure but BPS support sending messages to SYSLOG. You can try this way.

Here is the trap our Openview system is receiving.

1125426962 2 Tue Aug 30 14:36:02 2005 10.206.201.13 - Received event .1.3.6.1.4.1.45.1.6.2.4.0.2 (enterprise:.1.3.6.1.4.1.45.1.6.2.4 generic:6 specific:2), no format in trapd.conf. 2 args: [1] private.enterprises.synoptics.products.series5000.3.3.1.1.4.6.1.0 (ObjectIdentifier): private.enterprises.synoptics.products.series5000.1.3.10.48.1 [2] private.enterprises.synoptics.products.series5000.3.3.1.1.10.6.1.0 (Integer): 5;1 .1.3.6.1.4.1.45.1.6.2.4.0.2 0

I have not traveled trough SNMP tree but I find follow in MIB file

s5CtrProblem TRAP-TYPE
ENTERPRISE s5ChaTrap
VARIABLES { s5ChasComType,
s5ChasComOperState }
-- STATUS mandatory
DESCRIPTION
"A component or sub-component has a problem
condition, either warning, nonfatal, or fatal.
This trap is sent only once when the condition
is first detected. The following values are
returned:
s5ChasComType........the type of the component
(or sub-component) that has the problem
condition, with the instance identifying
the group, component, and sub-component.
s5ChasComOperState...the operational status of
the component or sub-component, with the
instance identifying the group, component,
and sub-component."
::= 2 -- 0x02

Try snmpget utility for get "s5ChasComType" and "s5ChasComOperState" variables.

It looks like it is a fan failure. Two out of three fans appear to have failed.
