I don't have S-Video connection on my laptop but have VGA component adapter, will this work to connect it to my TV?

If the adapter is a VGA-to-Component adapter, and the tv has a component connection(red-blue-green), then it may work.

If I already tried that and it didn't work, would you have any other suggestions?

Yes, I tried it and it shows three screens all in pink and flickering.

First, you must have at least an "HD ready" tv.
Second, if your adapter is designed to convert the PC's RGB signal(VGA) to a Y-Pb-Pr(Component) signal that's compatible with the tv, as described in the following 2 links, then you may need to install a program(like Power Strip) to fine tune the signal going to the tv.
It's also possible that the adapter is bad.

S-Video has a horizontal scan of 15KHx and has its color encoded on one channel.
VGA has a horizontal scan of 30KHz (at 40 x 480) and has three independent color channels.

So no it is not compatible without an adapter dongle that has electronics in it to operate the format conversion.
