Recently, when I start up my computer, I get this message during startup, right after it does the checks for hard drives:
Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace.

I've got a 60gb Maxtor 5 T060H6 drive, split up into a 8.5gb C: drive and a 51.5gb D: drive. It's run fine before, with no such issues. It still works perfectly too, the only indication that anything could be wrong is that message. Is there a way to fix whatever the problem could be without having to remove the drive? And, what would cause a problem like this?

Go to and download PowerMax, it is a diagnostic, and run it. If there's any errors, it will generate a code to use for getting it replaced if still in warranty. The SMART feature can warn of pending problems.

S.M.A.R.T. sometimes will give you a false reading . This feature can be disabled in The BIOS settings of your MB Hope This Helps Solve Your Problem
