Was wondering if someone could point me to documentation or can straighten me out on setting this appliance up in dual wan mode. Reading the user guide it is not clear the best way to configure our ISPs routers.

It appears that we need to enable bridging on the routers and re-create the configuration of the IPS routers, meaning IP address, port forwarding etc... on the RV042?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Please post a diagram or explanation of your existing routers, so we can see what you are trying to do.

I think in a typical situation the RV042 would replace any existing routers after the ISP NIU.

Thanks Jim.

We are using Comcast cable (5/20mb / SMC / StaticIP) and Covad xDSL ( 786/6mb PPPoE / Netopia / StaticIP).

We would like to use this in Dual Wan mode or at least in a primary and redundant config. Reading the user manual under Adv configuration -> Dual WAN settings -> WAN connection type.
I see that I need to enter/mirror the Routers configs on the RV042. Which is static for Comcast and PPPoE for Convad. I am okay with this. It is setup of the ISP routers that I am unsure about.

Regards,

Jake

The WAN connections of the RV042 should go to the respective SMC and Netopia devices of the ISPs. I have not sent one up at this point, but would configure each accordingly and test for proper operation. You might check the Cisco/Linksys knowledge base for any guidance or examples and if you get stuck, try calling Cisco Small Business Support.

So far the CSBS seems to be helpful, and they answer the phone live with English speaking people here in the US!

Yes, to configure the RV042 correctly, any DHCP/NAT/Routing should be disabled on the ISP devices - IOW, they should be in bridge mode.
