Russian Charset Cyrillic characters

We are currently using a database that uses US7ASCII, oracle version 8.1.6.0.0 on an Unix Solaris 5.8. The Database is going to be used by Russian clients and I understand that the database doesn't support Cyrillic characters so I need to set up the database supporting Russian characters. I think this is charaset "CL8ISO8859P5", what I need to know if I export the existing database and create a new database supporting UTF8 and setting up to support Russian characters and imported the data how this would be affected. Any help would be much appreciated and the best way to approach this method.

Many thanks

Michelle

I've never done this, but I'm fairly sure you'll be all right. My understanding is that all character sets supported by Oracle include the basic English alphabet. That means your import into the new database will be able to successfully translate to the new character set.
