Hello,

This is in regards to my earlier post about Cisco 1912 switches and a DLink DSL 504 Modem/Router. We have isolated the problem of connectivity down to the switches, and more importantly the routers port on the switch. Basically when you view the stats. for the port the router is plugged into there are numerous errors for a image please goto :-

This must be what is causeing the pages to timeout on the internet and downloads not to complete. I'm not sure what the problem is though; a few we could think of is that the router's NIC is 10Mb and the Port its plugged into is 10Mb but my computer is plugged into the 100Mb uplink port, is there a chance the the ports could be out of sync? I've tried my computer in a 10Mb port but it doesn't really fair much better. We have swapped cables and changed the switches from fragment free(cut thru) to store and foward..this has had an improvement, but its still not half as reliable as having the router plugged directly into my PC(which is lightening fast)> has anyone had similar problems, or have an idea of what the problem may be, or even a solution.

Thanks,

Nathan

On the page you posted you have FCS errors (frame check sequence), runts (frames smaller than 64k) and alignment errors. These all indicate a physical issues which could be a bad cable, the routers Ethernet port, or a duplexing issue. The errors are all on the recv. side of the stats page so it's coming from the remote device for sure. You said that you have replaced cables but I would suggest checking the duplex of the router and switch and make sure they match at either full or half. Also you should try pinging the page your accessing from the router and then the PC using 1500 byte packets and see where you get the slow repsonse just to make sure.
