i am getting the following error

run-time error 339
component 'smtp.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered; a file is missing or invalid.

any ideas of how to fix this.

it happens when i try to run a program called grapevine 3.0

Try:

Start, Run and typing in the command line box:
regsvr32 /i symtp.ocx

when i try your suggestion i get the following error
loadlibrary failed-the specified module could not be found

That was 'smtp.ocx' as opposed to 'symtp.ocx' you registered?

From the following site (near the end) comes this passage -

"TO READ
When registering control I'm getting message 'LoadLibrary("smtp.ocx") Failed'

Control requires Visual Basic run-time libraries (MSVBVM60.dll, etc.) to be registered on your system, otherwise you'll get this error.

When I tried to register the component using "regsvr32 SMTP.ocx" I received an error message "DllRegisterServer in smtp.ocx failed"

Most likely you don't have VB runtimes on your system. To get around this problem you can download full setup for SMTP.ocx"
