I am using microsoft retail management system store operations in a two-store environment, also we are using headquarters to link the two stores together. At one of our stores we have to point-of-sale registers. Lately we have been experiencing a very serious problem at this store. Whenever we try to print anything at one of the registers, whether it be a receipt at the time of sale, or an end of day Z-report, we get an error that says 'run-time error 380, invalid property type'. when we click ok to close the error message, the POS program completely shuts down. We tried backing up the database, and creating a new store database by restoring from the backup. We tried doing a complete uninstall on the problem register and reinstalling. Nothing worked, we still get the same error.

Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it? Like I said, the error appears to be triggered whenever we try to print something. The biggest problem is now this error is beginning to affect our other register. We used the program on both registers for over a month of testing without any problems, we only recently started getting this error. The other store is not having any of these problems.

Help! :(

Thanks in advance
Kevin

I have been playing around with RMS today and *think* I may have
gotten rid of that error message. I did some searching on the microsoft
knowledge base for run-time errors associated with printing, and decided
to try and delete the connection to the network printer on both
workstations, and then re-add the printer to each one again. After I did
that, the error message disappeared on both workstations and they appear
to be printing normally.

If that didn't work, I can give you some basics:
A Run Time Error is when the programmers have not made any error handlers for your error, and therefore crashes the system. Obviously something in your system changed, if not the network, you could reinstall a backup of your registry though I don't suggest it:) Normally what is expected for this in this industry is that there is a "patch" or a service pack or the latest update you add from, in this case, Microsoft. If the network printer solution didn't work, go to their knowledge base and check it out.
Good luck.

thank you rpropro - so far the error has not returned, and the lanes are all printing normally. however, i did run into another run-time error, this time run-time error 381. i got it in the POS when i clicked on the button to add an item to the invoice by looking the item up from a list, and when i highlighted the item in the list and instead of adding it to the invoice i instead clicked on the item properties button, i immediately got the error, and upon clicking on it, the POS shut down. however that only happened once, and it has not happened again. it did not repeat itself as the other error did before we fixed it

thanks,
kevin
