Does anyone know how I can get VNC server running on my SCO machine? Where would I download the progam from? Their site only has a linux version. Will that work? Thanks. Joe

You can get the unix sources here:
and filling out the form or here directly:
Code:
[URL unfurl="true"]http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/dist/vnc-3.3.3r2_unixsrc.tar.Z[/URL]

You'll have to compile them yourself unless you can find someone who has already done this.

Another option is to use the ready to go VOL package of Tightvnc from skunkware. It is version 1.2.2 and the latest at is v1.2.8:
Code:
ftp://ftp2.caldera.com/pub/skunkware/osr5/vols/tightvnc-1.2.2-VOLS.tar

Extract this file to /tmp, then run custom (scoadmin software) and install from media, choose /tmp as the pathname.

Hemo, thanks for the quick reply. Here's what happened. I went to the ftp site and downloaded and installed 1.2.2, and I got some kind of an error in the CQS or Component Query Script. What is that, and how do I fix it?
Even before that though, are all versions of VNC for unix meant to be used with the GUI interface, or is there a version that will run without GUI?

Please help! Thanks. Joe

I don't actually use vnc, so can't answer the gui/text debate for you. I do know the vnc server can run from text mode. More info could be found at
What type of errors did you get trying to install tightvnc? Sometimes a program will need other dependancies fullfilled prior to install.

Please list exact error text if possible.

Hemo,

Exact error message:

./opt/K/SKUNK2000/Tightvnc/1.2.2/cntl/CQS:Test:argument expected

ERROR:
Component Query Script (CQS) failed for "Tightvnc-Remote Network Access to Graphical DEsktops" (SKUNK2000:Tightvnc)

Hope this helps! Joe

Erp. Lost me there. That's not a dependancy-type error. What version/release of SCO are you runnin? OpenServer or UnixWare? If UnixWare there are other VOL files for unixware. I made the assumtive mistake that you are running OpenServer 5.0.x+

Hrmm...

It looks like tightvnc requires Perl and Glib on OpenServer. When I install, it tells me it looks like they aren't installed (they are) and I continue with the install. No other errors/messages though.

I coulnd't tell you if tightvnc even works in this instance. I've tried to set it up and it looks for a 'vnc' file that doesn't exist and isn't included with the VOL.

I am on OS 5.0.7.
