I have a suppression in the detail section and when I create a running total it includes the suppress records in the running total for the group. Without the suppression the running total is correct for the group. Is there to exclude suppress records in a running total?

your help is greatly appreciated. I am using crystal 11.

If you are using suppression you must explicitly exclude suppressed records by adding the opposite of your suppression criteria to the formula area in the evaluation section of the running total. Depending upon your criteria, you might be able to use group selection instead--the benefit being that running totals only evaluate displayed records.
