We are running Corporate Edition 10.1.4.4000 -

I am wondering is there a way through writing a script to allow symantec AV to run a system scan on a user's pc at shutdown. Would that script need to be impletmented through group policy?

And does that policy distinguish between a shut down and a restart? I dont want the scan running it someone just has to restart their computer for what ever reason.

Thanks.

It shuts down to restart, so Windows won't know the difference.

Have you thought of using the System Center to schedule system scans at a fixed time (like daily, weekly, etc. in the wee hours of the morning.) That assumes of course that you are using a managed connection.

Well the problem is that our users are inconsistant with how they logoff/power down at night. Some shut their machine completely off others dont. Even though we have asked for everyone to leave their computer on 100% of the time.

We wanted to stay away with running the scan during business hours because of the drain on the computer. Yes we have the priority set to low.

Thats why we were thinking of letting the scan run when the user goes to shuts down for the night.

In that case, you should be able to use active directory to remove the shutdown option from the start menu... although this may lead to other problems. :)

If you do decide to try that, make sure that policy isn't applied to administrators!
