I have a query that is limited to showing 100 records.
Is it possible to show the position 1 to 100 in another column.

The reason for asking is to show in a subform and not a report.

Thanks in advance.

David

Yes, you can use a subquery to create a number for the record in your top values query. Provide me your email address and I can send you an example of a query that does this. All you then have to do is place a bound control for the column containing the subquery.

Couple of problems

The field has to be in descending order and already has over 1200 entries(duplicates allowed) in the main table.
Limiting the query to 100 entries has the number position starting at 1207 instead of 1 or even 100 if ascending.
I did try minus the count, also tried minus the number of entries. Both will work although they show as negative.I just have to convert to positive.

I've tried your first example as well , the same happens.

I'm sure you know a better way. :)

Thanks

David

Joe,

Unless you want to sweat over it i've decided to use reports to limit records to 100 and the queries(with your example) to show all records and positions in the subform.

Thanks again

David. :)

You can send it to me and i'll take a peak, it's likely due to improper criteria selection in the subquery though. If you want to send it fine, if not no problem.
