Problem: When trying to run Scandisk in MS DOS I get this message: Begin Quote:
"There is not enough free conventional memory to perform a surface scan." and it continues further with:
"You may need to Remark (REM) some device drivers from your Config.Sys file ... (I couldn't read my writing, but only 3 letters here) ...your Config.sys. You may need to load EM386.exe drivers to load your other device drivers into Upper Memory Blocks using DeviceHigh= statements." End of Quote.

The fact that I can't run Scandisk in DOS suggests there is some other problem also.

I'd appreciate a good tutorial from you gurus in the byte world. Frank

Make a startup disk from W98.
This will make config.sys and autoexec.bat
optimized with himem and loadhigh .
The you can boot with this and run scandisk from it.

Thanks. It worked. I only had to put a check in Device=, etc for the hi mem in the Config.sys file. Frank
