Our company has a policy that states that users will not install software themselves, so we give them local restricted permissions in Windows XP.

We have recently installed CorelDraw 10 on a workstation but it will not run unless the user has Local Administrator permissions. Does anyone know of a way to run this program (and others) without the user having local admin rights?

Have you looked at the "Run as" option?

"To start a program as an administrator
In Windows Explorer, click the program executable file that you want to open.
Press and hold SHIFT, right-click the program icon, and then click Run as.
Click The following user.
In User name and Password, type the Administrator account name and password that you want to use."

See the full article in Help and Support.

Probably some permission setting:

Most likely the program will write to its own program dir, or to %SystemRoot%, which is not allowed for limited accounts (makes sense); or it could be that is wants write access to the registry, and not the HKCU part, but other, global trees.....

2 ways to find out (ok, probably more, but never mind): Ask Corel (previous experience indicates that that would be a rather lengthy, "interesting" event), or run some form of file and registry monitors (have an administrator run them for you, just once should tell you enough); go e.g. to

and

These (free) utilities will monitor file and registry access in real time, and should tell you easily what is going on.

Good luck, and keep us posted on the results,
