Hi,
I have:-
Windows NT4 network, mix of w2000 and XP clients.
Windows XP workstation, logged in as administrator, performed install of Lotus 5 client and runs ok.
Now, log back in as the user and Lotus notes does not start, splash screen appears but Notes does not start.

What rights to what files do they need as I dont really want to give the admin rights.

cheers
Rob.

I had the same problem, and my work around was to install the program while logged on as the user. This worked for me and I didn't have to give them admin rights.

1.) you need to use 5.0.11 as the client.

2.) you need to check off the run as same user during the installation.

I'm not certain that you won't still have problems with the r5 client. r6 client will work on r5 server with no difficulties and will work properly.

It didn't matter what version i installed ... I've had the same problem with r6, I spent a few hour changing permissions and could never get it to load unless the user had admin rights. I finally said the heck with and installed the program while logged on as the individual user.

The problem when installing as another user is that you have to give them full control of the installed directory.
They need to have permission to change the installed directory.

I use this all the time with the users having Power User rights.

I then go in and change the permission in the registry to give power users full rights in HKLM/Software/Lotus and change c:\lotus permissions to give pwoer users full control. This solves the problem of notes 5 for a user without administrator rights.
