I have a Netware 4.11 server that is running ARCserveIT. It backs up a Netware 3.20 server. I need to stop InoculanIT during backup because
it seems to slow the backup down when we leave it up. I went into the configuration for the backup and added PRE/POST commands as follows

PRE
\\servername\sys:system\istop4

POST
\\servername\sys:system\istart4

both commands fail with the following error

??? Unknown Command ???

is my command syntax correct or is this even possible?

It is possible.

Simply use ISTART4 or ISTOP4 (without specifying servername and location.)

I'm trying to execute the command on a remote server, If I use ISTART4 or ISTOP4 it will try to run it on the Local server not the Remote server I'm trying to back up.

Let me clarify that:

When you're setting your PRE/POST options, make sure you're setting them on each server (not the Global Backup Options)... Any command you type in the PRE/POST is launched on that specific server. Therefore, you should only need to use ISTART4 and ISTOP4 as your PRE/POST commands.

Basically, when creating your backup job, you'll select the desired server (your 3.12 server) on the left and then you'll see the different config items available for that particular server to the right. One of the tabs is PRE/POST, so you'd add your ISTART/ISTOP commands there. You'll have to stop current jobs, save the job list and then start the newly created job for that to take effect. Good Luck.

I looked at your first reply and didn't understand what you meant, Your followu p reply was right on, You were right I was trying to set it on a Global option, Not for the specific server.. Thanks
