Running java based games in Internet Explorer 6??

I have just downloaded IE6 after havin IE5, after installing it, i find i cannot use javascript applets in my browser, they just dont start!! i have been told by my isp that the people who make java stopped microsoft from using it in their IE6.
I am here now to ask if anyone knows if i can download some kind of file to fix this?? and if so, where to get it from??
If no one knows, how do i return back to my old version of IE5??
Thanks to anyone who helps me, i will be eternally grateful!:)
